How to Create a Work Environment for More Success

Let’s talk about something super important but often overlooked—your work environment.

When you work from home, your environment plays a huge role in how productive you are.

A well-designed home office can make a big difference in your business.

Here’s why…

A cluttered, noisy, or uncomfortable space can make it hard to focus and get work done. Not very conducive for success, right?

Messy Office

Your environment affects your mood, energy levels, and productivity.

On the other hand, a clean, organized, and comfy office can boost your mood, help you concentrate, and make you feel more professional.

Here are a few tips for creating a home office that can help you be more successful:

  • Pick the right location. Setting up a desk in the living room is likely not the best choice unless you live alone! Choose a quiet place where you can focus. It doesn’t have to be a whole room; a corner of a room works too. Just make sure it’s away from distractions like the TV or kitchen.
  • Invest in good office furniture. You will likely be spending a lot of time at your desk, so make sure it’s comfortable. Get a good chair that supports your back and a desk that’s the right height. Your body will thank you!
  • Lighting is very important. Natural light is always best, so set up your desk near a window if you can. If not, get a good desk lamp. Avoid harsh, bright lights. Soft, warm lighting is easier on the eyes and helps reduce fatigue. If you are on video often, make sure the light is not interfering with your display. If necessary, use a ring light or other light specifically meant for video to make sure you look your best.
  • Clean up your messes! I know…you know where everything is. However, simply having the clutter on your desk overwhelms your brain – even if you don’t think it does. Use shelves, drawers, and organizers to keep everything in its place. Spend a few minutes at the end of each day tidying up.
  • Make your space yours. Add some personality to your workspace. Add some personal touches like photos, plants, or artwork that bring you joy.
  • Limit distractions. Let your family know your work hours, so they don’t interrupt you. Use noise-canceling headphones if needed. If others are around, pick a location where you can shut the door for privacy. Get rid of self-distractions like endlessly scrolling social media by installing apps like Newsfeed Eradicator which hides your social platform newsfeeds until you are ready to see them.
  • Think about the ergonomics of your workspace. Make sure your computer screen is at eye level to avoid neck strain. Keep your keyboard and mouse at a comfortable height. These small adjustments can prevent long-term injuries.
  • Protect your eyes. If you are looking at your screen for long periods of time every day, invest in a blue light cover for your monitor or blue light glasses. Use “dark mode” where you can to help reduce eye strain.

Your home office should be a place where you can work efficiently and comfortably.Organized Office

By making a few little changes, you can create an environment that helps you stay productive and enjoy your work.

Remember, a great environment isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating a space that supports your well-being and business goals.

So, take a look at your current setup and see what you can improve. Your future self—and your business—will thank you!
