How to Mind Map Your Way To Success

Do you ever feel like your your head is going to explode with all the thoughts and ideas you have about you and your business?

  • What does my ideal client look like?
  • What is my core genius?
  • What is the result that I give to my clients?
  • How should I lay out my services?
  • What should I include with my new program?

All these questions and more are typical of coaches and consultants who are just starting out or scaling their businesses.

Capturing all this info and making sense of it all can be overwhelming.

This is where mind mapping comes in.

It’s a visual brainstorming technique that can be a game-changer for defining your business.

What is Mind Mapping?

Have you ever really looked at a spiderweb? There is the center where the spider generally hangs out and then there is the web that come out from that center.

That’s the basic concept of a mind map.

You start with a central topic (your core genius!), then branch out with related ideas and sub-ideas.

Then you add keywords, images, and colors to create a visual, non-linear map of your thoughts.

How Can Mind Mapping Help Define Your Business?

  • Brainstorming Ideas: Ever feel stuck coming up with ideas? Mind maps are a creative way to break the linear thinking mold. They allow you to explore all areas freely. You might be surprised at the unexpected connections you uncover!

  • Crystallize Your Vision: A mind map helps you see the big picture of your business. By laying everything out visually, you can identify core values, target audience, and unique selling points.

  • Goal Setting & Planning: Feeling lost in the day-to-day? Mind maps help translate your vision into actionable steps. Branch out from your main goal with specific tasks, deadlines, and even assign them to others if needed.

Ready to Get Mapping?

There are plenty of free mind mapping tools available online, but it is much better to grab a pen and paper and create your map.

Pro tip: Typing on a keyboard only uses one hemisphere of your brain – the logical side. Handwriting uses both the logical and creative sides!

The key is to tap into your subconscious and let your ideas take flight.

  • Get as detailed as possible on your mind map.
  • In the center of your mind map is the subject – “My Ideal Life”, “My Ideal Business”, “My Core Genius”, “My New Workshop” etc.
  • Out from the center, list everything about that subject that is relevant.
  • When you are done, go back and review what you wrote and add/change or delete until you have clarity.

Pro tip: Set a timer for 5 minutes and just write as much as you can.

Mind mapping is a powerful tool that will help you get all of your ideas and thoughts out onto the page so that you can define and clarify your core genius, your ideal client, services and more.

Now, go out and map your way to success!
