AI is pretty amazing, and it just keeps getting better!
It can write blogs, create social media posts, and even whip up complete marketing campaigns.
But there’s a big catch:
If you’re not careful, your content can end up sounding like everyone else’s.
And the last thing you want is to sound like a robot or, worse, like every other coach and consultant out there.
The good news?
You don’t have to choose between using AI and sounding authentic.
You can absolutely have both … if you know how to do it right.
Here’s how to stay true to your voice while letting AI help you create.
Step 1: Start with You
Before you even open your AI tool, take a second to think about how you talk and how you write.
Are you funny?
Warm?
Straight to the point?
Do you use certain phrases all the time?
Knowing your natural voice is the first step.
AI can only reflect what you give it.
If you’re not clear on your voice, it’s easy to lose yourself in the process.
Quick Tip:
Write down 3-5 words that describe your communication style.
(Example: friendly, bold, encouraging.)
If you are not sure, record yourself (you can use your cell phone) talking. Create a list of questions about you and your business and answer them on the audio. Give that audio to AI and ask it to analyze your voice based on your attached audio file.
Step 2: Teach AI Who You Are
Most people open up an AI tool, type in a quick prompt, and hope for magic.
But the secret to authentic AI content?
You have to teach it first.
Most platforms now let you add custom instructions (like ChatGPT’s personalization or Claude’s memory features).
You can tell the AI things like:
- Who you are
- What you do
- Who you help
- How you want to sound
Quick Tip:
Even if you don’t use a personalization feature, you can add a short intro in your prompt like this:
“Write a blog post in a friendly, casual tone, like I’m talking to a smart friend. My brand is all about making AI simple and fun for coaches and consultants.”
The AI will take that and shape the content much closer to your true voice.
Step 3: Edit Like a Human
Even when the AI gets you 80% of the way there, you need to finish the job.
- Add little stories or examples from your own experience.
- Swap out words that don’t sound like you.
- Make sure it “feels right” when you read it out loud.
Authentic content always has little imperfections and personal touches.
That’s what makes it feel real, and that’s what your audience connects with.
Quick Tip:
If you can’t hear yourself saying the sentence out loud, change it.
Step 4: Check for “Generic Sound”
Here’s a simple test:
If your content could easily belong to any coach or consultant, it’s too generic.
Authenticity comes from details like your stories, your values, and your style.
You want people to read your content and immediately think, “That sounds just like her!”
Quick Tip:
Before you post, ask:
“Does this sound like me… or could it be anyone?”
If it’s too plain, tweak it.
AI is an incredible tool, but you are the magic behind it.
When you take a little extra time to teach it, tweak it, and trust your own voice, you’ll create content that stands out and connects in a big way.
Because here’s the truth:
No one else can be you.
Not even the smartest AI.
And that’s your real superpower.
