These days, with all the noise and chatter online, getting your content in front of the right audience can be a challenge.
On Facebook alone there are over 3 billion new pieces of content a day. Crazy, right?!
Your goal is to attract your ideal client and stop them from scrolling. With all that noise out there, how do you do that?
Here are the 2 key components for grabbing their attention:
Your Headline
Your headline is the most important part of your content. According to Samba Recovery , in 2024, the average human attention span is 8.25 seconds. They note that this is less than a goldfish’s attention span of 9 seconds! Some studies show that the average attention span on Facebook is 2 seconds.
Your headline must be sensational enough to make them stop scrolling.
When creating your headline, make sure you have all the components of a good headline including:
- Common words
- Uncommon words
- Emotion words
- Power words
- The right length
- The right reading level

The Image:
A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Well, if your image stops the scroll, then it may be worth way more than 1000 words!
Think about your scrolling experience. What makes you stop on a post and read the content? Chances are pretty good that the first thing that caught your eye was the image.
Use bright, interesting images or short videos in your content. This breaks up text and keeps people engaged. Infographics are great for sharing complex information in a simple way.
But be careful with images. Make sure your image represents your content. Some marketers know that images stop the scroll. They place images on posts and advertisements that have nothing to do with the content just to get you to stop and look. Doing that is the fastest way to chase your ideal cli ent away.
Use apps like Canva to create the right image that goes along with your content. You can find free stock images at Pixabay and even create AI generated images using ChatGPT 4o or other AI image generators like Midjourney.
Grabbing attention is just the first step in creating content. It is also the most important step. If you find you are posting what you believe is great content and you are just not getting the engagement you would like, try changing the heading and the image. You may find that your content really is great…you just need to work on stopping the scroll.
